Access to Nature

The National Cycle Network is a network for animals alongside the people who use it. The hedgerows, flowers and trees along the routes provide shelter, homes and food for a variety of wildlife.

Connecting communities

For many, the National Cycle Network is a lifeline. A way for them to get to the shops, to meet their friends or to commute to work. The paths connect communities with their heritage, fosters a sense of belonging to local advocacy groups and provides leisure routes for exploring the countryside.

By creating an inclusive, accessible and connected National Cycle Network, Sustrans is making it easier for everyone to walk, wheel or cycle journeys. Through providing routes where people want to be, mental and physical wellbeing is improved, volunteers create life-long connections and children have a space to learn to ride their bikes.
