Starting near Derby city centre, this route follows an attractive path alongside the River Derwent before turning south on the Derby Canal Path to the Trent and Mersey Canal.
You will then join the Cloud Trail, a repurposed railway path which will take you to the village of Worthington and Cloud Quarry.
Along the Cloud Trail, you will cross the Grade II listed Trent Viaduct near the attractive town of Melbourne.
Just before you reach Worthington car park, a left turn will take you on a path around the rim of Cloud Quarry. This section has stunning views.
Flat, well-surfaced and mostly traffic-free, this route is excellent for families and less-experienced cyclists.
From Cloud Quarry, you can continue for another 10 miles along quiet lanes and traffic-free sections to reach Loughborough.
