Starting in Aberavon the route winds northwards, conveniently linking up with Port Talbot Bus and Train stations and the Shopping Centre. It then goes on to a pretty woodland riverside path, skimming the old mining communities of Cwmafan and Pontrhydyfen and the start of Afan Forest Park.
Along this stretch you will discover the Afan Valley Portrait Bench where three local heroes, Richard Burton, Rob Brydon and local man Dick Wagstaff, stand proudly in weathering steel. The Park is also a haven for all sorts of wonderful wildlife including red deer and buzzards.
Follow the route northwards through the glistening trees of the forest until you reach the Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre where you can rent mountain bikes and follow one of their world-class mountain biking trails through the forest; visit the mining museum, or simply kick back with a cold drink from the café and soak up the panoramic forest views.
Further north, the route connects with the new Llynfi Valley route where you’ll discover some brilliant artworks and wonderful Valleys landscapes.
