Phoenix Trail (Princes Risborough to Thame)

The Phoenix Trail is flat, well-surfaced and traffic-free. With magnificent views of the nearby Chiltern Hills, this is a lovely place for a relaxed bike ride or walk. The trail is rich in wildlife and, if you’re lucky, you may spot red kites, which thrive in this area.

The Phoenix Trail has something to suit everyone.

It’s a traffic-free cycle ride between Princes Risborough and Thame. It's a tranquil path to amble along with your dog on a summer's evening. It's somewhere to teach your child to ride their first bicycle.

It's also a connecting route for horses to get on and off the Ridgeway at Bledlow.

The trail is rich in wildlife too, and is particularly renowned for red kites.

This impressive bird of prey thrives in the area. You can identify them by their reddish-brown colouring and distinctive forked tail.

At either end of this trail you will find a lovely market town, Thame or Princes Risborough. Both are great for a café stop or to explore.

Whatever the weather or season, the Phoenix Trail gives you the chance to get out into the fresh air.

The Phoenix Trail is flat, well-surfaced and ideal for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The first 2.5 miles out of Thame has a tarmac surface and the rest is compacted limestone dust. Wheelchairs may experience difficulty with the access ramps at Towersey Halt and the B4009.

Art Trail

The Phoenix Trail comprises a series of 30 artworks inspired by the old railway environment and the local landscape of the Chilterns.

They are sited over five miles between Thame and Princes Risborough.

The project was a partnership between Sustrans, Rycotewood College, The Arts Council, Ercol Furniture Ltd, the Transnational Woodlands Industries Group, Arts & Business and Wycombe and South Oxfordshire District Councils.
