Lon Las Cymru (South)

From Llanidloes in the heart of Wales, travelling through stunning natural landscapes and rural countryside you can choose to finish the southern section of the Lon Las Cymru in Cardiff or Chepstow.

The more challenging alternative takes National Route 42 in Hay on Wye to Abergavenny and Chepstow via a taste of the Black Mountains.

A less challenging but equally attractive alternative follows Route 8 along the largely traffic-free Taff Trail from Brecon to Cardiff.

Starting from Llanidloes, the route continues to Rhayader, which has a link to National Cycle Network Route 82 and the stunning Elan Valley.

Continuin along Route 8, you will find the route bursting with greenery and wildlife. You will not be disappointed by the natural beauty of this section of Lôn Las.

The route then heads south to the pretty market town of Brecon where the popular traffic-free Taff Trail begins.

Skimming several valleys towns, the route continues on to central Cardiff, before reaching its endpoint in bustling Cardiff Bay.

The Route 42 alternative remains rural in character all the way to the end with the route meandering its way along the lanes, hills and woodlands of Monmouthshire to the historic town of Chepstow via Abergavenny. Take your pick.
