Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about navigating the National Cycle Network.

How can I view the OS Maps Legend?

Click on the icon of the three horizontal lines in the top left hand corner. Then select Map Legend > National Cycle Network.

Do you sell maps?

We sell our own Sustrans range of fold out pocket maps and dedicated long-distance route maps through our online shop.

We also have a range of GPX files that we hope to expand in the future.

How can I plan my routes along the Network?

We have some online resources that will help you plan your trips on the National Cycle Network, be that planning your commute or a multi-day adventure.

We have the map of the network we made in collaboration with OS Maps

We also have the Help With Maps page on our shop website, which helps visualise the corresponding area each fold out pocket map covers.

You can also find routes on the network on our website.

How do I report issues with signage on the Network?

Maintenance of permanent signage on the Network is the responsibility of the relevant landowner. If you wish to report an issue with signage, please contact our friendly Supporter Care Team at  supporters@sustrans.org.uk.

If the issue is on land we don't own, we will ask you to report it on FixMyStreet.

What signs should I be looking out for on the Network?

When navigating the network, keep an eye out for the National Cycle Network signs. On a blue background, there will be a red box with a white number inside and this number corresponds to the route you are currently on. In some cases these signs will only be stickers, in other cases they will be on signposts with direction markers that include place names and distances.

Can you plan cycling holidays for me?

Unfortunately, we can't plan your cycling holidays, but if you're looking for advice on what maps you might need to follow a specific route, please contact our friendly Customer Service team at  Customer.Services@sustrans.org.uk.

Can you recommend accommodation and establishments along the Network?

While we aim to provide helpful information, we can't provide recommendations for hotels, B&Bs, campsites, pubs, restaurants or other establishments.

Can you include information about my hospitality establishment/shop in your publications?

While we aim to provide helpful information, we don't promote information or details about specific establishments in our maps. The only publication in which we do so is our Land's End to John o' Groats guidebook, but this has recently been updated so requests for inclusion won't be considered until we next update the guidebook in a few years time.

Are there e-bike charging stations along the Network?

In collaboration with Bosch, Sustrans has installed some e-bike charging stations on the Network.

Unfortunately, we don't have a comprehensive list of all e-bike charging stations on the Network.
