How to create a great #WeAreTheMovement video

We need your voice to help us in our call for fair funding for active travel in England.

What we're looking for

We’re asking you to record a quick video of yourself on your mobile phone or camera to post on your social media channels, talking about how much active travel means to you.

The more of us who show just how important walking, wheeling and cycling are to us, the more likely the government is to pay attention.

Tips for creating a great video for social media

  • Aim for around 30 seconds in length.
  • Film in landscape mode.
  • Ensure your face is fully in the shot and there is enough light. Avoid standing with your back to a window in the daytime.
  • Check that you can hear and see yourself clearly before sharing your video.
  • Please refrain from using swear words.

If you’re stuck on where to begin, try answering these questions:

Why is walking, cycling, or wheeling important to you? What positive impact does it have on your life? And how does it make you feel?

Need some inspiration?

Here's an example of a great #WeAreTheMovement video.

What does active travel mean to you?

How do I share my video?

Share your video to either your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account.

Please include the hashtag #WeAreTheMovement in your post, so we can see it. You can also tag @Sustrans.

Alternatively, you can email your video to storytelling@sustrans.org.uk

I want to share how important active travel is to me, but I don't use social media. How can I get involved?

If you’d like to share your opinion in a different way there are other options to get your story to us.

Post your views in a written format on your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account accompanied with a photo

The photo can be of yourself, your family or your friends enjoying walking, wheeling, and cycling in your area.

Don’t forget to use #WeAreTheMovement and tag @sustrans in your posts.

Record an audio clip on your phone

Use your smartphone to record a 30 to 60 second audio clip or a voice note of yourself talking about what active travel means to you.

Try to keep your note to no more than one minute long.

Once you're done, save it and please send it to storytelling@sustrans.org.uk along with:

  • your full name
  • the city or town you live in
  • and use ‘Fairer funding for active travel funding cuts’ as the email subject line.

It's also fine to stay anonymous too. Just leave your name and location out.

A big thank you in advance for supporting us in our call for fair funding for active travel.
