The route begins in the Gloucestershire town of Stonehouse. Set in the Stroud Valley, this small but bustling town has a long industrial history dating back so far that it was recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086.
Heading along the old railway line, look to the east for wonderful views of the Cotswolds.
This route is never far from the water. Throughout the journey you will see the River Frome, the Stroudwater Canal and the Nailsworth Stream. Keep an eye out for water mills and other interesting buildings along the way.
Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons are accessible from this path. Both are managed by the National Trust. While they do require a challenging uphill ride on minor roads, the views at the end are very much worth it.
