The work is being delivered by South Gloucestershire Council, with funding from the Department for Transport through our Paths for Everyone programme.
The stretch of railway path between Signal Road in Staple Hill and Ridley Avenue in Mangotsfield will be temporarily closed to allow for resurfacing works.
The works are expected to take place between Monday 27 September and Monday 4 October, weather and supply permitting. Signs will be on site with further details.
The beginning of a series of improvements
This marks the start of a series of improvements planned on the Bristol and Bath Railway Path in South Gloucestershire.
The works will include upgrading drainage and improving access and crossing points.
This is part of our Paths for Everyone programme, working to make the National Cycle Network safer and more accessible for everyone who wants to use it.
Preserving a popular route for years to come
Jon Usher, Head of Partnerships at Sustrans said:
"It's great to see this project coming to fruition.
"These improvements will help to make this much-loved route a more enjoyable place to walk, wheel, scoot and cycle.
"The railway path is so much to so many people. It’s a commuter route, the school run, an exercise space and a place to socialise with friends and family.
"We want this iconic space to carry on serving the communities around it for years to come, and South Gloucestershire Council’s works will help to make that happen."
Long-term ambitions to improve active travel
Councillor Steve Reade, South Gloucestershire Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Environment and Strategic Infrastructure, said:
"We are delighted to be leading on this important work, which the DfT has funded through Sustrans, and which will see a number of improvements on the popular Bristol and Bath Railway Path between Staple Hill and Mangotsfield.
"The path is a much-loved asset in our area and this work supports our aim to help improve the local cycling and walking network for all users.
"South Gloucestershire Council has long-term ambitions to improve active travel and to help address the effects of climate change.
"More and more people are making active travel choices to stay fit and ease congestion, and we want to ensure we are doing all we can to help them move around the area in safe, healthy and sustainable ways."
