Work to improve a stretch of National Cycle Network Route 2 between the outskirts of Rye and Camber in East Sussex is complete. This was delivered by Sustrans through our Paths for Everyone programme.
The active travel route joins the outskirts of Rye and Camber in East Sussex
The traffic-free active travel path adjacent to Camber Road has been resurfaced, and the bridges along the route have been repaired and rejuvenated.
Linking holiday hotspots
This important link between two holiday hotspots, from the historic town of Rye to the coastal village of Camber, is now safer and more accessible for everyone exploring the area on foot or wheel.
Welcoming more people to walking, wheeling and cycling
The improvements enable more people to enjoy the route, from those walking, scooting and cycling, to people using adapted cycles, mobility aids, wheelchairs and pushchairs.
Providing an alternative to travelling by car
Popular in the summer, the rejuvenated route is a viable and sustainable alternative to travelling by car for local journeys.

Creating a more enjoyable space
Sarah Leeming, our Director for south of England said:
“These works have delivered a more enjoyable space to give walking, wheeling and cycling a try for journeys around these popular holiday hotspots.
Making a difference by choosing sustainable travel
Sarah continues: “Travelling under our own steam can support not only our own mental and physical health, but also help to reduce congestion in the area, protect the environment, and support local businesses along the way.”
Delivered with thanks
The project is part of our Paths for Everyone programme, supported by the Department for Transport, to enhance the safety and accessibility of the National Cycle Network.
